Flathead trip 2025

Day 1-Friday/Saturday

We traveled from St. Paul to Whitefish by the Amtrack and spend a lot of time together. We made bracelets, played games, took naps, read books, and more! We made a few quick stops on the way and were able to get some fresh air. We’re getting closer and the scenery is getting prettier as we head further west into Montana. We’re seeing lots of horses, cows, rivers, and mountains. We haven’t had time delays on the train this trip, but it still feels long. We are looking forward to being outside, getting good sleep, enjoying good food, exploring nature, connecting with God, and getting closer. Excited for a great trip and thankful for a smooth and safe travel experience.

Day 4- Tuesday

We first started the day off around 8am with breakfast, which consisted of eggs, strawberry cream cheese pastries, and sausage links. Shortly after, we headed toward the boat area and paddled to another camp that was down shore. Once we arrived there, we swam and ate sun butter and jelly wraps. There was also a lot of rock skipping and laughter. When we got to our camp, we wanted to swim but we and had to wait an hour before we could because there were not any lifeguards on duty. So, we occupied ourselves with ice cream and volleyball/basketball until they arrived. After we were done swimming, we got cleaned up and then devoured our scrumptious dinner of cheeseburgers and hot dogs. We also surprised Alex for his birthday and sang to him twice today! We played mafia after dinner and then ate some more ice cream followed by some quiet time and reflection by the lake. To end the day, we watched a live reenactment of Jesus’ last week. After that amazing performance, we reflected on it and headed to bed.

Day2- Sunday

On our first full day at Flathead we started the morning with showers and lots of time to settle in. We had breakfast, then headed to morning worship with the other campers and counselors. Then we had free time and we spent it laying out in the sun and swimming in the lake. After a couple hours we enjoyed a snack before finally meeting our counselors, we got a tour of the camp and played games while waiting for dinner. We finished the day with more games and then outdoor worship at the amphitheater. Being able to worship God in such a beautiful place is such a blessing!

Day 5- Wednesday

We started the morning at the pave (pavilion)  having breakfast burritos and sliced oranges. All 28 of us took 3 vans to the lighthouse, an assisted living home for adults with disabilities, to meet with them and do yard work for them. We helped them pick weeds, painted tables, sheds, and chicken coops. After that we had lunch and did a group worship which was phenomenal.

Once we got back to the pave and had a little quiet time and free time before making dinner at the outpost. We had foil dinner over the campfire, it consisted of chicken, peppers, and onions. For dessert we had s’mores. Later we walked to Ebenezer and grabbed rocks on the way to stack them and do a prayer. That ended the night before we all did a day debrief and went to bed.

Day 3- Monday

We went to new heights today! We enjoyed climbing in the trees and challenging ourselves to do things we were a bit nervous to do at first but in the end, we conquered any fears we may have had. We have also learned to trust each other and rely on each other through games that were played on ropes that were suspended in the air. We also played group games, shared meals, and had lots of time for connection. We are excited to learn more about ourselves as individuals, each other as a group and God through all of the amazing activities that we are doing.

Day 6 -
Thursday

On Thursday we got up at 7am and had eggs and cereal for breakfast. We then drove an hour in vans. We hiked 1.5 miles and ate lunch, then split up to go either on a trail to a lake or a mountain peek. Some of us went to the mountain peek which was 3 more miles, and we couldn’t see much because of the fog. We ate huckleberries along the way and took lots of pics at the top. The fog started to clear up on the way back.

When we got back, we made pizzas. Then, we went to the canteen for ice cream — bunny tracks and salted caramel.

During our daily worship of prayers around the cross, we prayed and sang. There were lots of emotions. During songs people would come up, light candles and pray. Other would come and put their hands on their shoulders to support them. It felt like a big relief to everything in the week.

We took some time to process everything, and there were lots of group hugs and tears. We ate s’mores to lighten the mood. Most were made by Kingdon, Adia, and Evelyn.

We then walked down to the docks with others and sat and listened to the waves before getting ready for bed. We all listened to Kingdon’s story before going to bed.
