Giving Garden

The Story

Back in 2019, Barrie Froseth and other community members wanted to create a community garden. They planned an organic garden with a unique soil composition that makes it easy to plant, grow and harvest.

The community garden, now called a giving garden, is a succession garden with new crops for spring, summer and fall. For example, spring radishes will be replanted with beans for a summer crop.

As produce is harvested, it is donated to local community partners. The Mount Olivet Loaves & Fishes Community Meal relies on the fresh produce to keep costs down while offering free, tasty and nutritious meals. Home Free, our local shelter for women and children recovering from domestic violence, receives snacking vegetables. The remaining produce is donated to PRISM in Golden Valley to support their food pantry.

In 2022, the Giving Garden donated nearly 2,000 pounds of produce and was the second largest garden to donate in Hennepin County.

WHERE is THE GARDEN?

The garden is located near the Child Learning Center entrance on the west side of the grounds by the boundary of French Park. While you check out the garden, stop by the MO prayer labyrinth, which is just past the gardens.
