Vacation Bible School is one of highlights of our Faith Formation calendar each year at Mount Olivet. Between the kids attending VBS (ages 4 to 4th grade), the older youth and adults facilitating during the week and the team of volunteers who helped with planning, it really does take a village to make VBS happen.
The VBS Participant Experience
Whether or not it’s your first year having a child in VBS, you may have questions about what their experience will be like. Here’s what the week entails:
VBS community night / RSVP:
Wednesday, June 13 at 6 PM, the entire Mount Olivet community is invited to a special Community Night worship service & mission event that integrates our VBS programming for the week. All VBS families are encouraged to participate in the fun! RSVP here.
VBS is a four-day session this year from Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14. Each day we begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at Noon.
Your child will be assigned to a “crew” with approximately five other participants in their age group, all overseen by a Crew Leader who has volunteered to fill that role. The Crew assignments are shared at sign-in on the first day of VBS.
On day one of VBS, we ask that you come into the Welcome Center and help your child check in and find their Crew Leader. We ask that a parent /guardian sign in at drop off and pick up each day. If your child will be absent or another adult will be picking up after VBS, please notify your child's Crew Leader or one of the Planning Team members.
After the opening, each crew will rotate so they can each have 25 minutes in each station: Bible Story, Arts & Crafts, Mission and Games. Game station will be outside, please dress for the weather, and apply sunscreen prior to drop off.
The children will end each day in the Worship Center around 11:35 AM each day. You are welcome to attend during this time to experience and share in the excitement! Please pick up your VBS participant promptly at noon each day.
Daily offerings collected during morning worship will support Northport Elementary’s music department and their KidPack program, which provides meals for children with food insecurities.
We invite students to bring their offering inside the pencil case they decorated on day one at VBS.
large group opening & closing:
Each day of VBS begins and concludes in the Worship Center with Large Group time. Facilitators use this time to share key messages for the day, energize the kids with AMPED music and activities and share time worshipping together.
All crews have snack time together mid-morning. Water is available throughout the day, but feel free to send a water bottle as well. If you have questions, or any dietary restrictions, please contact Erica Nolte, Director of Faith Formation: email@example.com.
