Mount Olivet helps support, and works closely with organizations making an impact both locally and abroad. Many of our members engage with our partners as volunteers, organizers, and advocates.
The Benevolence Fund is our congregational tithe, a portion of all dollars given to Mount Olivet. We use the fund to make financial gifts to our partner organizations making an impact here and in the world.
Church Innovations Institute (CI) does research and consulting that innovates church capacities to be renewed in God’s mission. They have helped more than 1,800 congregations, 75 national and mid-governing bodies, and 24 denominations on 4 continents and in all 50 United States. Mount Olivet entered into a three year process led by CI beginning in 2012 and has committed to supporting their important work in the world.
Mount Olivet, Nokomis Heights, and Trinity Lutheran have been companion congregations since 2005 and were recently joined by St. Peder’s. The congregations work together on creative ways to share congregational gifts with one another and serve our communities.
DINNER AT YOUR DOOR
A local effort to deliver meals to homebound seniors in the neighborhood. Based in Crystal, the Northwest Suburban Dinner at Your Door is more than bringing food to people in need - it's bringing a smile and making someone's day.
ELCA WORLD HUNGER
From health clinics to microloans, water wells to animal husbandry, community meals to advocacy, Mount Olivet's gifts to ELCA World Hunger make it possible for the ELCA to respond, supporting sustainable solutions that get at the root causes of hunger and poverty. The children's offering collected every week is distributed directly to the ELCA World Hunger ministry.
As part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Mount Olivet supports the global ELCA mission-support fund that helps launch new ministries, support developing congregations and impact those in need around the world.
Home Free is a shelter in Plymouth for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. This partnership continues to grow and has helped make the Breaking the Silence: Violence Awareness and Prevention series come to life.
Northport elementary & kidpack
Partners since 2012, Mount Olivet has provided weekend KidPack food packs to Northport Elementary students. Roughly 600 KidPacks are distributed to Northport students each week during the academic year as well as during summer school.
Our partnership with Northport continues to grow – Mount Olivet members engage with students and staff as reading and math buddies and support special projects like the annual musical. Members also provide in-kind donations of winter clothing, school supplies, and more.
LOAVES AND FISHES
Loaves and Fishes provides nutritious meals to people who are hungry across Minnesota in an atmosphere of hospitality at site locations where the need is greatest. Mount Olivet directly supports the site located in the Hiawatha neighborhood of Minneapolis at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Msasani Lutheran Church
Mount Olivet Lutheran Church and Msasani Lutheran Church have joined together in partnership as brothers and sisters in Christ, in order to share resources, pray for one another and stand firm in their commitment to spread the love of Jesus Christ. Activities and visits have strengthened the connection between the two congregations, created opportunities for working together in responding to God's call as well as increased appreciation of each other's culture.
PARENTING WITH PURPOSE
Having an incarcerated parent creates a crisis for the entire family—economically, socially and emotionally. The family is in pain, vulnerable, and under significant stress. Those most impacted are the children of inmates who experience loneliness, anxiety and anger caused by the trauma of the incarceration of a parent. Parenting with Purpose works alongside families providing mentorship, parenting classes, support services and more.
PRISM is a social service agency that helps local families during times of financial hardship. Mount Olivet has been partnered with PRISM since it was launched 44 years ago, supporting the work they do here in the western suburbs.
PRISM is a community-supported social service organization that helps people access food, clothing, and housing in times of financial hardship. PRISM has case workers that take a person-centered approach to pairing individuals and families with the basic needs listed above as well as providing or connecting people to resources for budgeting and financial assistance, diet and nutrition, domestic violence, employment, homelessness prevention, mental health, substance abuse, and more. PRISM has established a track record of serving thousands of households annually as they continue to eliminate barriers and empower people in Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope, Plymouth, and Robbinsdale reach long-term economic security.
