activities groups

The Mount Olivet community hosts a variety of Connect Groups (small groups created around an idea or theme.) If you want to get to know other community members, reaching out to one of these Connect Groups below is a great place to start.

20’s and 30’s Group

Group Contact: Annie Held // Facebook Group
We are a group of 20-30 somethings that get together for volunteering, and social outings. An open group where all are welcome to join, or bring friends!

Book Ends

Group Contact: Marlene Stimpson
Book Ends is a day time reading group that meets on the 4th Monday of every month. Men and women are welcome to join us to discuss a book that we’ve all read prior to the meeting. Contact Marlene to get on the email list or find out what book is up this month.

Brew Crew

Group Contact: Eric Hansen
Do you like to brew your own beer or make your own wine? Would you like to learn how? Join in the tradition of Martin and Katie Luther - we meet the first and third Sundays of each month. We will brew together the first Sunday of the month, and go on a field trip to an area tap room on the third Sunday.

Community Garden

Group Contact: Bruce & Julie Hjerpe // Facebook Group
For all Mount Olivet men and their friends. We meet the third Thursday of each month at the Caribou Coffee by the Plymouth Mann at about 6:30pm. We'll choose a movie to attend, and then adjourn to Applebees after the movie for beverages, snacks, and critique. All are welcome!

Guys Who Like Movies

Group Contact: Kevin Miller
For all Mount Olivet men and their friends. We meet the third Thursday of each month at the Caribou Coffee by the Plymouth Mann at about 6:30pm. We'll choose a movie to attend, and then adjourn to Applebees after the movie for beverages, snacks, and critique. All are welcome!

Knitters / Crocheters

Group Contact: Holly Carlson
We call ourselves the Knitting Group, but actually anyone who does any kind of needlecraft is welcome to join us! Our favorite service project is knitting or crocheting prayer shawls for people with serious health problems or troubles. Prayer shawls are our way of wrapping people in God’s love and comfort when they need it most. The shawls are easy to make, and yarn is provided from donations. Meeting the first Tuesday of every month, September-May, 6:30-8:30 pm; and the second Sunday of every month, September-May, 10-10:40 am in the Fireside Room.

Mount Olivet Parents Connect (MOPC)

Group Contact: Katherine Johnson
MOPC is a time for families with young children to connect with each other at monthly onsite or offsite events. They also host weekly gatherings on Sundays, 10:15 – 10:45 am in Room 140 (meets September-May). To connect online and get updates, join the Facebook Group.

Older Wiser Lutherans (OWL’s)

Group Contact: Shirley Kehrberg
For all Mount Olivet members, friends and family who are over the age of 55! Join the OWLs for monthly gatherings planned either at Mount Olivet or off-site excursions. Past events have included ice-cream socials, apple orchard visits, game days, and more! Contact Dave to be added to the email list.

Quilters

Group Contact: Nancy VandeVegte
This group meets three times a month on the first and third Thursday mornings (9 am until noon) and the fourth Tuesday evening (7-9 pm.) Quilt tops are sewn together by individuals at home and then the tops are tied when the group meets at Mount Olivet in the Conference Room.

Scrap & Craft Group

Group Contact: Leslie Gentner
Do you love to take photos? Or scrap? Or have a portable craft? The MOPLY Scrap and Craft group gathers eight to ten times per year to work on individual projects in the company of other women. Originally focused on paper scrapbooking, members also work on digital albums, or use the time to work on other portable craft projects. Connect with other women, work on your project, get inspired, manage your photo files – this time is very flexible. We meet Friday evening and some Saturdays. Contact Leslie for dates.
